After School Care

Program Structure

Our after school care is for children in K-6th grade. Children who attend our program receive a healthy snack on arrival and have access to our intentionally designed classrooms, library/homework room, 2800 sq. ft. gym, and custom-designed outdoor playscape. Children participate in a variety of stimulating indoor and outdoor activities.

Children are assigned to a group of about 30 children that rotate between the different areas. Each group is supervised by 2-3 teachers. Groups are the same each day and based on when children arrive, such that children who attend the same school stay together after school. Each group spends about 35 minutes in our classrooms, outdoors, and our gym before all children head to the gym for the last 30 minutes of the program. Children can go to our library at any time between 3:30-5:00pm to read, study, or complete homework. A teacher is available to help them as needed. We do not allow the use of electronics because our goal is to help children build friendships and good social skills through face-to-face interactions. As a general rule, we do not watch movies or television.

Spaces

Our intentionally designed spaces serve our mission to encourage physical fitness, creative expression, and discovery.

The imagination classroom is set up to encourage imaginative play, creative expression, and cooperation. It has pretend play toys, dress up, and a curtained stage for child-led theatrical productions.

The discovery classroom is set up to encourage critical thinking, creative expression, and cooperation. It has board games and art supplies.

The gym is set up to encourage physical fitness, teamwork, and cooperation. It has a large matted area for high-energy play and a concreted area for table activities, basketball, four-square, and other active play games.

The outdoor area is completely fenced and has a custom-built large wooden playhouse and arch bridge with a gravel and sand box on each side. Children take out outdoor toys each day such as jump ropes, balls, and hula hoops. As part of our continued plans to invest in our program and facility, this area will include an outdoor kitchen, picnic tables, and large mounted chalkboards in the future.
